Chobe National Park covers over 11,000 Sq Km and is home to Botswanas most varied wildlife. The river to the north supports the greater numbers of wildlife but the marshy areas to the south Chobe provide beautiful habitat for wildlife and many water birds. The entire park of Chobe is a fairly wild area with no tar roads except the road from Ngoma to Kasane.
The Chobe River runs along the northern border of the park and this is where most of the places to stay are located including the towns of Kasane and Kazungula both of which are small villages. Although parts of the northern area are accessable by 2WD you will need a 4WD vehicle to explore most of this beautiful area.
If you are staying in Kasane or Kazungula then there are plenty of companies running half day 4x4 game drives into chobe and this is a much more economical way to see Chobe than to spend all your time at one of the luxury lodges inside the park.
There is a route through to the Okavango Delta through Chobe National Park via Savuti but this should only be undertaken with 4wd vehicles and can get very sticky in the rainy season.
